Our Story

The Origin

Imaalya was born from a simple desire: to bridge the gap between two worlds. We wanted to bring the authentic, cloud-soft warmth of traditional Kashmiri weaving to the brisk, unpredictable winters of Melbourne. But for us, the who matters just as much as the what.

The Artisans of Watergam

In the Watergam district of Kashmir, amidst the noise and complexities of a region often in flux, there is a quiet resilience found at the loom. Our stoles are hand-woven by local women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) who come together to craft these pieces in small batches.

For these women, weaving is more than a tradition; it is a lifeline. It provides a stable income that supports their households and, most importantly, helps fund a quality education for their children.

The Promise

When you wrap yourself in an Imaalya stole, you are wearing a piece of that resilience. We are dedicated to slow fashion that looks good and does good—ensuring that the warmth you feel extends all the way back to the families in Kashmir who created it.
